World of Warcraft raids - DamageMeter just won't cut it - Image 1Mike Schramm, venerable World of Warcraft player and blogger, had an epiphany during a Shadow Labs run down: why can't raid instances conclude with a summary screen? Good question. After all, the battleground system already incorporates a summary screen after a good Faction bout.

Because the game is continuously in development, perhaps it won't hurt to nudge in a stat summary after pursuing and meeting (or failing) objectives in certain game modes, like raids, in the game. While mods like DamageMeter can display some statistics for players, information isn't distributed or available to everyone instantaneously.

It's nice to be able to go through a raid instance, fulfill objectives, and to spot the really hard-hitters and raid contributors at the end. It will make recruiting for 25-man raid groups easier, plus it will bring the really hardcore raid players together.

Instance jacking can be minimized that way, in a sense. Each raid could also be analyzed more systematically, bringing back strategy to the mix. But for now, Blizzard is concentrating on new raid content and class nerfing balancing, so it's less likely that they would be able to squeeze in a couple of lines of code for raids for now.

 » Better Idea

Why can't the j ust let us duo or solo raid content? Why is it so scary and something all these mmos avoid? I know people wouldn't quit. You can solo every last thing in UO from day 1 to date, and tons of people still play, the place is packed wall to wall with housing and players on every server and you can kill anything alone, which is how it should be. I seriously am tired of the grouping in wow. So many people still try to solo stuff the game doesn't want them too, so many people still download and play on emulators just for the freedom lots of free servers offer, ie soloing the whole game. Of course people would fight me on this, but those people most likely also enjoy the work environment. Where they are the slave to some boss and work in groups and feel comfortable and live out a miserable life and die. So Blizzard reconstructing that kind of world into a mmo makes sense, they know most of the people playing their game are slaves to their jobs and accept that so they will in a lame video game too. Whereas people like me who are freethinkers, their own boss, HATE authority and can do the job right if I do the job myself want to solo. I use cheats and some hack programs to do this in WoW now It's a lot more fun. STILL tough, still takes a long time if not longer, but I enjoy playing alone.
