GuildWars - Image 1The online gaming industry is rising fast and could be worth US$ 11 billion in a matter of four years, says research firm Strategy Analytics. Gaming online leads the trail and is poised to be a boon for the proliferation of downloadable content.

The online gaming industry was worth US$ 3.8 billion when fiscal 2006 ended and analysts say that a 25 percent growth rating is likely when fiscal 2007 wraps up.

Blizzard's World of Warcraft is unquestionably spearheading the online charge with a huge subscriber base worldwide enjoying its popular massive multiplayer online (MMO) RPG. Martin Olausson, Digital Media Research Director at Strategy Analytics states:

The rapid growth of the addressable market for digital distribution of both PC and Console games will help clear the way for distribution of mainstream hit titles which has up to now been restricted to the physical retail channel.

Console gaming taking its players online (PSN, Xbox Live), along with music, video, and game downloadable content are pushing growth for the industry that could boom exponentially within the next several years.

David Mercer, Strategy Analytics' Principal Analyst says that the continuous outreach of broadband services around the world is making it possible for more people to avail of the industry's services. "The very lucrative revenue opportunity in both the massively multiplayer segment and the electronic sell through market will continue to attract new entrants into the online games market," he concludes.

 » i must admit

i'm still yet to get used to online gaming... played some on Resistance and Motorstorm but not a lot... only did it very few times and each session didn't even last 30 minutes... although i beat Resistance three times on different difficulty levels.

and i didn't get other online games like R6V or Graw 2 but focused more on games like Oblivion, Ninja Gaiden, Marvel Ultimate, NBA2K7 and such...

and even my plans for the future are geared more towards single player games like Heavenly, Drake, Assassin, Rachet, NBA2K8 and Folklore... but i'm giving Warhawk a go when the Blu Ray version comes out here in Australia on September 20 and UT3 when it comes out too.

 » I dislike MMORPG

I mean, I think they are kindda of, and when you start playing it's hard not to play, but my point is, after you played for weeks, you finally think about it and all you have in mind is: "okay, all that time for what?" and you realise that you play only to by the best around, and not because you're having so much fun.. At least this is my story with the MMORPG playing Ragnarok Online, it was fun, yes, but after a while, you understand it's boring, lol. So I'm not into any other MMO again. For online games, I'm more into warhawk or conterstrike! :D
