World of Warcraft: Burning Crusade - Image 1

While most of the bounty that we'll be looting come the Hallow's End event in Blizzard's World of Warcraft will remain fully usable in our inventories, there's one particularly-coveted item that expires after some time, and it's got posters in the game's forums all vexed. Yes, it's the off-beat but still awesome mount, the flying broom, a no-nonsense mount and a great alternative for those of us who want to see our character riding something else than a Netherdrake. Or a Ram.

So why the duration? After all, it's not the flashiest of mounts, and there are players who'd like to keep it longer than its assigned 14-day expiration date. Thankfully, Blizzard Poster Bornakk was there to clarify things. His post, verbatim:

Putting the duration on these items makes it so we don't have to worry about keeping them as a special rare mount. Instead it allows us to make them drop on a regular basis so almost everybody can experience this part of the event and enjoy it while it lasts.

Well,  there you go. The reason that Blizzard gave the flying broom mount a duration is that they want it to be accessible for everyone as a common drop, and not one that makes an equivalent of a raid reward. Although, with the coolness factor of the broom, there's probably more than a handful of people willing to run an instance for it.
