If you've got a high-end machine but Blizzard's World of Warcraft isn't looking too good on it, then this news update should be relevant to your interests: some players have found that you can actually make the game look a lot better yourself. This is achieved by some very handy and nifty console commands that we're sure those players had to have used some magic to find just the right parameters. Well, probably just trial and error and a bit of programming ingenuity, but it's still a bit arcane for us non-techy folks.

In any case, what are these commands? Here they are:
  • /console farclip 777
  • /console horizonfarclip 6226
  • /console groundeffectdensity 256
  • /console groundeffectdist 140
  • /console smallcull 0
  • /console skycloudlod 3
  • /console characterambient 0
What happens when you enter all these commands in your World of Warcraft console, you ask? A lot of things, mostly. The vegetation in the game will appear to be more dense and more noticeable from miles away, the bloom effect will be more vivid, the view distance will be greatly increased, and there's an overall upping of sharpness and crispness of the visuals. There's also the deal about the weather effects being a bit more intense.

Of course, if your gaming rig is not up to snuff, you might experience some framerate issues afterwards. So here's the antidote:
  • /console groundEffectDensity 16
  • /console groundEffectDist 1
  • /console horizonfarclip 1305
  • /console farclip 177
  • /console characterAmbient 1
  • /console smallcull 1
  • /console skycloudlod 1
  • /console detailDoodadAlpha 1
And that's that. Here's hoping that it made an already pretty-looking game even prettier for you adventurers. Updates as we get them!

 » Umm...

Just so you know, all the things that are changed by those commands can be changed in the video menu. It's a lot easier and faster to do. It also has more options.
