Comic by Penny Arcade - Image 1

Dolash over at the World of Warcraft Forums asked what criteria is used to decide who wins or gets an honorable mention in the "Blizzard Fanart thingy".

He asked about what sort of art standards apply to the contest, as some of the submissions aren't exactly at par with Picasso. How funny does the comic have to be to tickle a judge's funny bone? Well, Blizzard blue Nethaera answers the query:

We take a look at the comics based both on humor and artistic style. If a comic is particularly funny it can afford to be a little weak on the art side. If the comic isn't especially funny, it may have an art style that is appealing and gives it strength that makes up for it.

That pretty much explains it. According to the poster, players can submit a comic for each month and comics should only be submitted once. They "collect, filter, and judge a final batch of comics. The winner for each month was submitted for the previous month. Honorable mentions may have come from any previous month, as we do pile those up sometimes."

For the budding artists out there, there are your guidelines. Just be sure to be original and artistic.
