Blizzard's World of Warcraft dominated during 2007, but 2008 may be another story, according to MMORPG industry watchers.  In a combined 2007 year-in-review and 2008 forecast, the industry watchers took a look at the success of Blizzard's MMORPG and the serious contenders to WoW in the coming year.

Industry watchers cited games such as Funcom's Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures and EA Mythic's Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning as possible serious contenders to World of Warcraft's online supremacy.

The trump cards of these two games, industry watchers said, has to do with the long history and the merchandise backing them up. Furthermore, both Age of Conan and Warhammer Online are attempting to experiment beyond Blizzard's established mechanics.

Regardless of whether or not other MMORPGs will be able knock World of Warcraft from its top spot, one thing is clear to the industry watchers:  the plethora of MMORPGs available out there is an indication that the industry has grown stronger and more mature over time.
