honor systemLet's talk about the honor system. There's gonna be a new one. Yup, having a revamp from the old system where your rank assignment was based on your performance compared to other players, this time, PvPs will be rewarded based on absolute points. How does this work? Read on.

According to Tobold, in his MMORPG blog, he visited the PvP reward NPCs, both in the Hall of Legends in Orgrimmar and the one right in front of Alterac Valley. Of course, for every new system, there are inevitable pros and cons. The apparent advantage of the new system is if, for example, you win 50 battlegrounds, doing 1000 honor skills will always be worth the same. And that's regardless of how long you did those battles, or how much others played.

The downside is that the Alterac Valley PvP reward NPC was offering the exact same rewards as before. There weren't even any "level 70" items added. Then again, it could be that it's just on its way. More surprising is that the reputation requirements seem to have been scrapped out. Anyhow, Tobold finds this to be still decently reasonable, given that winning the AV becomes a whole lot more important this way. He explains, "Because all the honor points don't help you if you don't also have the 80 Marks of Honor. Assuming you win half of your battles, you need to finish AV 40 times to pay for the Unstoppable Force."

On to the Hall of Legends in Orgrimmar. Unlike before, when it was just open to officers, it's now accessible to everybody since the officer's rank no longer exists. Now, displaying your highest rank is still an option for you, although it wouldn't really do you much help. Anyway, there are a whole bunch of vendors here for your armours, weapons, mounts, and accessories needs. While there are only a few level 70 items, there are still others that are the same as the PvP rank rewards. The Sergeant's Cloak, for example, now costs 1500 honor and 10 Arathi Marks of Honor.

What seems to be the rockbottom for Tobold is that most of the items present also have specified Marks of Honor costs. The only items you can buy with honor points without the need of having the corresponding Marks are the potions, insignia of the horde, battle standard, and some cut gems.

So his verdict: In terms of the farming and rank system, the new system edges it out over the old one. However, as for the rewards, well, there needs to be a balance to make PvP as attractive as PvE. How 'bout you? What do you think?

19 out of 20 pug PvP battles on our server group are dominated by horde. With no point to going in and losing a battleground, might most Alliance stop playing altogether, killing the whole Battleground system? And would it be better off dead?
