It seems the pressure to succeed definitely is greater, even if you're just playing a game. According to a recent study done by the folks at Play On, it seems PvP players in World of Warcraft are more inclined to get to 70 as quickly as possible compared to PvE players.
"On both PvP and PvE servers," the researchers write, "roughly 20% of the population was level 61
and above, but the distribution was significantly different. Players on
PvP servers tended to be higher level than players on PvE servers. The
graph below shows how clean that break is. The difference is especially
clear for level 65 and above, and particularly for level 70."
According to these figures, one probable reason for the speedy leveling of PvP players was to avoid getting ganked by higher leveled players. Whether or not it brings to light anything significant about the type of players who enjoy the game, it does say one thing about WoW: The internet is definitely a serious business, especially when it comes to ganking and PvP.
