Classes - Image 1There are a lot of character classes in the World of Warcraft. Heck, there's something for everyone. Then why are some players asking for new classes?

What are the chances for a new class? According to Megmut from the WoW forums, chances are pretty slim since all the character classes possible have been covered: Melee (Warrior, Rogue), Ranged (Hunter, Mage, Warlock), and Support/Hybrid (Paladin, Priest, Druid, and Shaman).

With all the classes and races, it's all pretty well distributed. The new class would be something of a Frankenstein of leftover skills and hero abilities. And if Blizzard does release a new class, people would be clamoring to roll one and we'd be flooded with lowbies of the new class.

Blizzard guy Tseric answers the question (and raised new ones.) He cited Rob Pardo's keynote speech at the GDC regarding "concentrated coolness". He said:

Part of that relies on purpose of the class and its place in the 'pantheon' of all classes. While many folks obviously want a new class, the distinction of this class should be defined by new abilities and purpose, not just a fresh coat of paint to make it seem new at the start, but really not bring anything original in terms of game play or long-term usefulness. We don't really want to copy/paste a bunch of old abilities and rearrange them into a new class, rather this new class should have distinct abilities and purpose for the game.

Some players from the forum offered some ideas like adding Necromancers and Monks. Well, we can only hope to see new classes anytime soon as it is not really easy to add lore and skills to a class. We'll just have to wait and see what Blizzard has in store for us.

 » I miss my Bard...

EQ Bards were a great class. I'd start one today in WoW if I could.

I miss the tactician from ac2... but I don't think he would fit-in in a game like wow with all the constant traveling in instances and outside and what-not. He'd sure pwn the troll event in ZF though. haha.

I dunno, it could be done I suppose, but he'd be mostly usefull for boss kills and spawn camping.

If bliz had a class similar to a tact, I would definitly try it out.
