Will WoW be neglected because of Starcraft II? - Image 1

There have been a lot of threads from worried World of Warcraft players regarding the announcement of Starcraft 2: will WoW be neglected now that Blizzard Entertainment is busy with StarCraft 2? While some might feel that this is concern is "a bit childish," there are others who believe that this is a concern that needs to be addressed.

Blizzard poster Nethaera has given some comforting words in the forums saying that "WoW will not be neglected and development continues on it independent of development on Starcraft 2." Aside from her post, a lot of players have responded saying that WoW is earning too much revenue for it to be neglected.

Of course, the opposite camp has given reasons for why Blizzard would neglect the said MMORPG. They have cited the four months which have gone by without any patches.

And a third camp has popped up saying that the game has been neglected from the get-go.

So where does this leave most of the casual WoW players? Well, Blizzard has promised support through its community representatives, so we can expect that. As for those who think the game is being neglected, we hope Blizzard addresses this section of the community as soon as possible.

 » Who cares?

For a long, long time SC was neglected because of WoW. I wouldn't be too worried for it.

Well SC2 has been in development ever since Frozen Throne was completed, and WoW hasn't been having any problems with being paid attention to. So don't sweat it.

Once Starcraft II comes out, I expect the WoW population to drop drastically. WoW is great once you start playing it. The time investment almost forces you to come back and keep coming back... playing hours on end in one sitting. I think once a game gets enough attention to initially pull the gamers away from WoW, I don't think most of those players will want to return.

WoW is actually a pretty boring game if you think about it. Nearly every aspect about it is a grind. Competition is about who can grind more. Skill is based on who grinded the most.

Now we have a game coming out whereas competition is based on skill rather than how many years you've played for. I think people have been yearning for a competitive game that is based on skill for awhile now.

Let's just hope they don't have a monthly fee in order to play multiplayer.

How does this relate to the topic at hand? The less players in WoW, the less likely it will be kept up to the extent that it used to be. Games like WoW are dangerous in that if a server's population begins to drop, it will continue to drop because the interaction amongst players gets sparse, and people get bored. This is why Blizzard has a habit of starting more and more servers. People flock to the new servers when they go-live... get bored, then the server dies.

There is very little to keep people coming back to WoW these days.

 » No way

WoW is NOT going to lose players over starcraft, thats ridiculous. First off, they're entirely different genre's. Usually people who play MMO's don't cater to RTS type gameplay, I know I don't. Sure, I'm going to give starcraft a try, but theres always something that makes you want to come back. I've stayed away from WoW for a couple of months, tried a ton of other MMO's, and I have to say WoW still remains my top, which is kinda sad really. The MMO genre is really lacking in originality, and every other MMO that steps up to compete against WoW just doesn't deliver.

I am really hoping for an MMO to kill WoW, but saying starcraft is going to deplete the population in WoW? Lol.

SC fans have been waiting for 10 years for another SC game. Wc3 3 got very negleted because of WoW. Who gives a damn if WoW gets neglected a bit? I think it's totally fair to work more on SC2.

To JuneG9: Hehe. You're wrong. A lot of people have played SC in the past. Then, they moved to WoW. WoW will get depleted but not by much. Remember, SC is the number 1 most balanced strategy game just like WoW which is the number 1 MMORPG. Furthermore, I would like to add that WoW players take breaks and come back to Wc3.

Offtopic but I saw a post in the WoW forums about someone complaining about RTS genre being boring. I laughed at that comment. First of all, RTS games require thinking and you have to act fast to destroy your opponent. It's like chess in real time. MMORPGS on the other hand, are very boring games IMO. Grind, grind and grind. I will never understand those people who play them. I tried too many MMORPGS and stopped around level
25 max. Controlling an entire army of aliens is better than controlling one hero seriously. That's why people should never play Dota.

 » Starcraft mostly developed

We've got a great starcraft 2 community building up at http://www.starcraft2forum.org

If anyone wants to come and talk about this great game, please do so! It's probably the most anticipated game of all time, I mean, we only had to wait 10 years!
