WoW Forums: Wrath of the Lich King going to Vista? - Image 1

For many a gamer, it's the sort of thing we hope won't be happening soon. According to Gezelle over at the World of Warcraft forums, there's a possibility that the Wrath of the Lich King expansion will require players to upgrade their system OS to Windows Vista.

Gezelle notes that the rumor stemmed froma  discussion that took place with a friend currently employed at GameStop. Gezelle's friend had basically stated that with the way more and more PC games such as Shadowrun had been branded as Vista-only, it is then possible that WotLK would follow suit. The good news is that according to an update from Nethaera, this prospect appears to be unlikely. Quoting the blue-poster's exact reply:

What I'm saying is that we are continuing to develop with as many users as possible in mind. I'm not going to call out any specifics since we haven't publicized any at this point in time. I couldn't tell you if any upgrades would be needed or not since it depends on your machine and what it can handle. The likelihood of us switching to any one particular platform after supporting what we do right now, would be very low. ;)

Tossing in my two cents, I doubt that Blizzard would make WotLK a Vista-exclusive either. Part of WoW's appeal is that it's playable even on lower-end machines. Limiting the game to run on one OS would certainly exclude a good portion of its population, which could in turn affect its cash flow. Drop by again in case we receive any updates regarding this discussions

 » Um..

Game expansions dont launch on separate platforms from the original game. Lay off the crack.

Of what is it.. 10 million WoW users, how many of them do you think are on Vista? I'd wager somewhere in the area of 0..

Unless Blizzard plans to not their expansion, or simply lose all their subscribers, Im pretty sure they'll stay on the side of logical decisions.

Vista exclusive in any situation = retarded.

Vista exclusive expansion to an XP based game = The crazy red haired step-child of retarded.

 » Vista? Yeah right...

I have played WoW on Vista (sometimes do depending on PC i'm using) and it's horrible. The quality of the game drops dramatically as well as the performance too.

Originally, I ran WoW on an HP DV6205US w/ 2GB of DDR2 Ram using Vista and it wasn't fun at times. I downgraded the laptop to WindowsXP and the game showed a great increase in performance and the videocard was able to give a little bit more since the ram wasn't being eatten up from Vista.

In other words...Blizzard wouldn't do this to there fans!

 » AVOID friskgame.com

I just wanted to let people know to AVOID FRISKGAME.COM for all PowerLeveling!!! Four days ago I paid them to PowerLevel a character 5 high levels in three days. I hopped on him this morning and saw he had only been PL'ed 1/2 a level. I then sent them an email asking for the status and what was going on. I never heard from them and hopped on the account again three hours later and all my characters were in the process of being deleted!! (it takes 2hours to pass until your chars are deleted on this game) So I canceled all of the deletions, logged in each character, and they stole all of my equipment and gold from each character. We're talking ALOT of time and money stolen. And I mean A-LOT!!!

I then contacted their LiveChat and they said "we don't do this type stuff. Please contact us in 6 hours cause he not at work" Couldn't have been anyone else, they were the only ones that had the "new" password I had put on the account before I gave them the information to PL a character. AVOID THEM and let others know!!! Not only will you lose your money, but you'll lose all of your characters and their equipment.
