Some of you looking forward to World of Warcraft's expansion, Wrath of the Lich King, may have your eyes set on getting yourself a Death Knight character. Enigmatic and terrible, the Death Knight has been around since the Second War and served the Lich King in the Third War. In Wrath of the Lich King, they are allied with the Horde or the Alliance to fight against Arthas, the Lich King.
The Death Knight class was chosen to be a playable class because they fit perfectly into the story of the Lich King as they are tied absolutely with its history. Being an already established class, the Death Knights will mostly draw on its previous incarnations in Warcraft II and III, meaning they'll be just as cool as ever and you'll be getting to control them.
The Death Knight class is mostly a tanker although they won't be using shields (not their style). They'll instead be utilizing a mixture of melee attacks coupled with rune-based spellcasting "to lay waste to whatever gets in their way." Their rune magic is distinct; different from the mana, energy and rage systems.
The developers are still keeping mum about a lot of details so we should expect more surprises for the class in the future. Watch out for updates.
