If you've already read the first couple of issues of the World of Warcraft comic books, then you have to admit that the visuals there pretty much captures the essence of what the game is like. For that we can all thank Ludo Lullabi, the artist responsible for the series.
In an interview conducted by MTV Multiplayer, the French artist talks about his inspiration for working on the comics and how he was able to adapt his art style to that WoW's standards.
It was rather fortunate for him that he was already a huge fan of WoW. Because of this, a lot of his artworks were inspired from in-game screenshots of the different locations in Azeroth and didn't require any major adapting.
He also got a lot of feedback from Blizzard itself when it came to staying true to the lore. They made it a point to portray everything there is in comic book as accurately as they can compared to the game.
He admitted the there wasn't that big an adjustment when it came to adapting his art style to the feel of the game. Considering his main source of inspiration came from video games, it was rather easy to fit into the mold that fans wanted. He explains this by saying:
I wanted to work on this project by being faithful to the style of the game. And I adapted my style to fit the WoW universe even before actually working on it. My main sources of inspirations are coming from the video games, and Warcraft is a real part of my graphic references both in terms of designs and colors. Therefore, when I am working on this project, I totally feel like myself. Considering his own video gaming background, Lullabi hopes that other video game adaptations to other media will soon follow. He is also anticipating any feedback from the fans once the comic book reaches his own home shores of France.
