Does the death of one significant being mean the death of others beneath him (or her)? Take for example: the Paladin-turned-Death Knight, Prince Arthas. Embodying the spirit of the Lich King, Arthas commands the Undead Scourge in Blizzard's World of Warcraft.
But when Arthas ends up as a boss that can and will most likely be defeated in the near future (with the upcoming WoW expansion, Wrath of the Lich King), would that mean the race of the Undead would disappear from the face of WoW?
That's just one of many other questions tossed about in the World of Warcraft boards, and it appears it ended turning into a debate of how lore and story should progress if a significant character in the main lore would die. Community manager Nethaera responded by asking, "Does the Lich King cease to be when the vessel is destroyed?"
True enough, the Lich King may continue to exist, even if in spirit form only. But if Arthas is to be defeated, who then would be the Lich King's new champion? Nethaera believes that is left for Blizzard to reveal, and hinted that something new to the Warcraft storyline would be introduced when the time comes:
I know that people have preconceived notions of what should be and what is to come, but try to open your mind to the possibilities a bit. Some of the best stories of all time have unexpected twists and turns. Stories need to progress to continue to live and the status quo isn't a very good way to maintain progression. I have no idea what could happen next, but I'm willing to wait and see.
