Blizzard's World of Warcraft Battlegrounds feature - Image 1Living on the edge has always been a daily lifestyle for players who frequent the highly competitive PvP servers on Blizzard's World of Warcraft. Compound this with the fact that even NPCs can take out their aggressions on you for violating the fragile peace, then you have one frustrating gaming session on your hands.

A complaint on the WoW forums recently surfaced, explaining the unfairness of the Guard NPCs' AI when handling PvP outbreaks in any city. Forum poster Delathor mentioned that the devs should tone down the durability loss upon being killed by a Guard due to their behavior of arbitrarily killing anyone who begins a fight inside the city limits.

This sort of AI behavior tended to punish the victim of a PvP attack more often than the actual aggressor. Many others agreed on this note and were expecting a response from Blizzard regarding the matter.

Fortunately, Blizzard Poster Drysc came by and explained the mechanics of the Guard's AI. This was what he had to say:

It's not really "a punishment for trying to PvP", it's a restriction on where we want you to be able to PvP. Even then the restriction is fairly fluid, you could potentially get away, or harass someone a little. We don't feel it's necessary to have uncontrolled murdering and mayhem in a place that people may just want to check their mailbox. If you want to kill them wait until the guards can't see you. They're going to leave town eventually.

Hopefully, this should sufficiently explain the supposed "unfairness" of the situation. In any case, don't forget to return to this space for your regular dose of WoW updates.
