Netherdrake mount featured in Blizzard's World of Warcraft MMORPG - Image 1It's sometimes refreshing to step away from all the hardcore MMO jargon littering the various games in the genre. Finding the time to look at the lore of a game or even the background behind the musical score of an MMO can give a player some meaningful insight on its development.

Case in point, World of Warcraft forum poster Frostburn posted a question asking which instruments were used for the background music on the Azuremyst Isle. He went on with the assumption that it involved a type of flute, although some forumers countered that this was merely a synthesized instrument.

Fortunately, Blizzard Poster Nethaera shed some light on the subject by relaying the answer taken directly from WoW composer, Derek Duke:

There were three featured wind instruments used, the bansuri-a bamboo flute, bass clarinet, and brass penny whistle. They were all quite heavily treated/processed and re-sampled.

That was certainly an interesting tidbit to learn about the game. If you're interested in learning more about Blizzard's premiere fantasy MMO title, make sure to keep yourselves posted to this spot for more updates regarding World of Warcraft.
