World of Warcraft Blizzard MMORPG - Image 1Some World of Warcraft players have complained that the waiting time in the Arena for 2v2 matches is longer that those in 5v5 matches because of server clogging. Blizzard Community Manager Tharfor, on the WoW European Forums, explained how server clogging works and why 2v2 matches tend to form longer lines more quickly.

He said that the server clogging happens because there is a limit to the number of matches of any type at any given time. Considering that one 5v5 match can be run for every three 2v2 match, the 2v2 would become clogged much faster:

For every 3 2v2 matches that run, you could run one 5v5 match. The wait time on 2v2 due to server clogging is because there is a limit to the number of active matches at any given time...If the 'limit' at which the 'clogging' occurs was say, 1000, we can easily see that the 2v2 would be clogged even with the same number of people wanting to participate.

This pretty much means that Blizzard isn't intentionally clogging the server so people will shift to larger scale games. That said, Blizzard might want to consider raising the 2v2 server clog cap to accommodate the number of players who want to play in this arena format.
