World of Warcraft - Image 1

It's the mark of a good MMORPG when the developers take the time and effort to create a detailed world that stands on its own reality. That's what MMORPGs are all about: to be immersed in a totally different universe.

Now, boats sailing by themselves may work on some MMORPGs where boats like to captain themselves but for others, it just doesn't fit. And so the developers of World of Warcraft decided that in Azeroth, boats just don't behave that way.

Boats in World of Warcraft are now manned by NPCs. Blizzard Poster Nethaera explains that it wasn't mentioned in the patch notes because it was meant as "a pleasant surprise." The change was first noticed by Talimus who voiced his appreciation in the WoW forums.
