Blizzard representative Slash recently announced on the World of Warcraft main page that they've released an online atlas that everyone can use to better explore the realms of Azeroth and Outland. In it, you can view both customized and detailed world information that suits your needs.
If you want a bigger picture of the world, you can click on Customized Region Info to help you out with some general information on the layout of the three main areas of the game: Kalimdor, the Eastern Kingdoms, and Outland. With Customized Region Info, you can, at a glance, view the different flight paths, instances, level caps, and profession trainers in each region.
If you're looking for even more information, you can check out the Detailed Region Info, which will offer you more information on a specific zone. Within each specific zone you choose, you'll be given a detailed map of the zone, as well as the locations of towns, flight centers, and repair points, among other things. You can also view city maps of the different main cities, each with markers pointing you to the locations of the different merchants and trainers within the area.
All in all. it looks like a great asset to the World of Warcraft community. For newcomers, it can be a place to gather tons of information on the MMORPG. For veterans, it's certainly a place to get your bearings after a long hiatus. Expect the atlas to be updated though once Patch 2.3 (and Zul' Aman) comes out.
