The use of third party software to automate gameplay is obviously something that's not kosher to use in the World of Warcraft, along with other MMOs. Blizzard representative Daghorn announced over the European WoW Forums that they have banned over 114,000 accounts across Europe last April for the grounds of using bot programs for game exploitation.

So how do they pick out who's botting and who's not? According to Daghorn, tips to GMs and emails to the Hacks Team really help in coming down on the culprits. He also mentioned that they were also taking action against gold farmers and whose who offer power levelling services who advertise in-game. CM Ommra also added a few words since some players aren't convinced about the figures:

I would prefer some more evidence than that before permanently banning an account... Can you imagine the outcry if we banned accounts that turned out not to be botters? And, as pointed out already, this isn't a one time banning – we ban exploiting accounts on a regular basis. It won't end here either, we will keep fighting the bot pest.

We'll see how Blizzard will continue the fight against the bot infestation in the World of Warcraft. Stay tuned.
