WotLK beta forums: changes planned for Death Knight's disease mechanics - Image 1As handy as the Wrath of the Lich King beta calculator is, now may not be a good idea to finalize your Death Knight's predicted build. Blizzard poster Ghostwalker visited the WotLK beta forums earlier to announce that changes were being planned for World of Warcraft's very first hero class.

Don't worry, this isn't a nerfing announcement. Instead, Blizzard will be consolidating the Death Knight's diseases. Here is Ghostwalker's explanation of what the player can expect:

We like the gameplay that evolves from trying to get a disease on a target in order to do cool things.

On the other hand, we need to fix:

  1. The confusing array of diseases with their different durations, effects and stacking rules.
  2. The crazy number of debuff slots a death knight can occupy on a target.
  3. Diseases not playing well with freezing targets.
  4. Getting a new talented ability only to find that you don't have the runes available to incorporate it into your rotation.

The kinds of changes you're likely to see include: meh abilities going away or getting packaged together, talents sliding around in talent trees, and more logical synergies and rotations. We don't want to lose the depth that the class offers and certainly don't want to lose what's fun about being a DK.

Ghostwalker further noted that the changes are expected to be implemented by WotLK beta's next few patches. The official talent trees will also be updated in line with the change, which should in turn provide for a clearer explanation of the new disease mechanics. That's the latest news we've got for the moment. Visit again in case we run into any more related details.
