What do people do if real life doesn't offer them what they're looking for? They tend to look for it elsewhere. For some, it could mean running to a virtual world such as the one found in Blizzard's World of Warcraft. This precisely is the theme of "Second Skin", a documentary film by Juan Carlos Escoriaza. Read up on what's in the film at the full article and see if you can relate to it. |

The first keynote speech at the currently unfolding Austin Game Developers Conference (Austin GDC) came from no other than Blizzard Game Producer Mike Morhaime for World of Warcraft. The said event, taking place at the Austin Convention Center in Texas, began yesterday and will run until tomorrow.
Anyway, the producer's speech was focused on how WoW will continue to rule the gaming world. According to him, there are exactly 10 steps that Blizzard has implemented for World of Warcraft and following them is one of the key factors why the game has been very successful all these years. The steps are as follows with a few explanations from the producer:

For us gamers, playing our favorite games is bliss. What could be more cooler than a day on a comfy chair with a bag of chips sitting on our lap while raiding or PVP'ing in Azeroth in World of Warcraft? Answers to that would be few but we bet working behind the scenes of the world's most popular MMORPG is among them.
Blizzard Entertainment has put up a post in their official site announcing their plans of holding a mini job fair at this year's Games Developers Conference in Austin, Texas. They're giving individuals with enough background on the technicalities involved in creating games the opportunity to be among the backbone of the industry currently populated by more than nine million MMORPG players. Here's Blizzard's exact pitch at the WoW's official site: Do you have the passion to create great games? We're always looking for skilled individuals willing to challenge themselves to achieve excellence. This year at the Austin Game Developers Conference, members of Blizzard's global recruiting team will be on hand to answer all of your job-related questions. Bring your resume, demo reel, or business card -- our recruiting team will be happy to receive all your materials and talk to you about opportunities at Blizzard. Among the WoW development team slots Blizzard hopes to fill are the following: Senior Graphics Programmer (Next-Gen MMO), Senior Tools Programmer (Next-Gen MMO), Senior Tools Programmer (Next-Gen MMO), and Lead 3D Environment Artist (Next-Gen MMO). If you're interested and living within that area, brush up those interviewing skills, prep those resumes, and head on to our link below to review each job's description. |

For those who want to attend this year's Blizzcon but are finding their wallets a bit too thin to support the trip, here's some good news for you. The World Series of Video Games (WSVG) will be sponsoring one team from the World of Warcraft 3v3 Arena competition which will be held in Dallas, Texas this July 5 to 8 on an all-expense paid trip to Blizzcon 2007. Take note that the team will be selected at random from all the participants. That means even if you don't place in the tournament, you might be selected to go. The winner of the said contest will be announced on July 8 at 4:30 p.m. Since the competition will take place in Dallas, the above mentioned time schedule should be for that location as well. Anyway, you don't have to do anything extra to join this giveaway except to sign-up in the event because teams will be automatically entered into the drawing upon check-in. Like we said, the prize covers three all-expense paid trips and admissions to Blizzcon 2007 which will be held on August 3 to 4 in Anaheim, California. So, if you want a shot at going to Blizzcon for free, why not drop by the tournament and sign-up. Who knows, you might be heading to Blizzcon for free even if you placed last. Please refer to our Read link below for more details and for the sign up page. |

Michael Morhaime, Blizzard co-founder and the father of World of Warcraft, and Sulka Haro, the creative leader behind the Habbo Hotel virtual community, will each present a keynote lecture for the Online Games Track at the 2007 Austin Game Developers Conference. "For online games and virtual worlds, Blizzard's World of Warcraft and Sulake's Habbo Hotel have pioneered the way and set precedence on how MMOs can transcend into real communities as well as establish new e-commerce models," said Jane Pinckard, Content Manager for Austin GDC. "We can't wait to hear what the men behind these iconic games have to say regarding the future of online gaming." Aside from the Online Games Track, the Austin GDC will also feature lectures, tutorials and round-table discussions on three more tracks: audio for games, writing for games and a new People's Choice track featuring sessions community members want to see most. Austin GDC will take place September 5-7, 2007 at the Austin Convention Center in Austin, Texas. |

America, are you ready? Blizzard Entertainment is in need of new blood
to spill in their growing lineup of Game Master staff. If you're
active, helpful, and wish to make a huge impact on the World of Warcraft
community, then Blizzard wants to hear from you. (And if you're a female, natural blond or brunette, 36-24-34, at least five feet, four inches in height, with lovely personality and a penchant attraction to geeks with thick glasses, QJ.NET wants needs you! ...for...uhh...important reasons...) Okay, so now while being a Game Master isn't the dream job everyone could think it might be, you could be helping out poor Blizzard in bringing out the fact that they are really trying to make the game enjoyable for everyone and each WoW session to be a memorable one. Unfortunately, you'd have to handle all the tickets, the spammer reports, the angry bot reports and some pretty heart-breaking forum love letters. But you do get to wear awesome GM gear, if you actually have to log into the game. Blizzard is prioritizing applicants coming in from the online community so don't forget to log in and extract the forum post where ol' flying draco Eyonix made the announcement. Oh and if you aren't already down over at Austin, Texas, well, better pack yer bags coz' yer headed there for some forum watching and account handling, if accepted. |

Blizzard, the brains behind World of Warcraft, is expanding into Austin, Texas - the Cradle of Gaming. Apparently, the Irvine, California-based company would be setting up a customer support center in the city. The Blizzard office in Austin will be housing game masters, quality control, I.T., and human resource folks. A Blizzard rep also mentioned that the Austin office "is all in-house Blizzard people. It’s not going to be made up of third party providers". This move by Blizzard confirms a recent report in the Austin Business Journal which mentioned that Blizzard is setting up house in Austin. This was so because the company has secured a 46,000 square foot office building in the Northeast Austin area and that they are planning on employing 500 people. To that, Blizzard replied that the 500-employee figure is just a tad too much and that they will simply hire people as needed. |
