World of Warcraft to be one of the featured games in the Championship Gaming Series - Image 1

It was recently announced that World of Warcraft will be featured in the Championship Gaming Series (CGS) World Championship. Every World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade player on the European and North American servers have a chance to be drafted for the upcoming season.

Blizzard Entertainment's Community Manager Vaneck posted a message on the WoW Europe forums regarding this very topic and the details on how to be a part of it. The system is quite simple really with a two on two ladder for the eliminations
from June 19 to July 3, with the top five teams in each division heading up the qualifiers. This phase along with the drafting is rather complicated so here's exactly how Vaneck described it.

So if you do make it to the top, big rewards are going to be coming your way. You can expect to earn a good US$ 30,000 to a whopping US$ 100,000 annually from both the salary and bonuses, not a bad haul for playing a game you love. So if you think you've got what it takes, sign up for the ladder tournament. Who knows, you just might be the next big star in World of Warcraft.

World Series of Video Games - Image 1 Team Pandemic is sending their World of Warcraft Arena team, Power Trip to the World Series of Video Games (WSVG) going to be held in China. The tournament is set to start during China's Golden Week - May 1 to 3 at Wuhan City.

More than US$ 60,000 worth of prizes is at stake at the WSVG. During that time, we'll also be seeing the launch of Blizzard's offline competitive template - meaning, we're about to see the World of Warcraft on LAN. After ending up on first place in their battlegroup, Power Trip is now sharpening their axes for the next competition and the next qualification stage (on April 22). Their main roster:
  • Joseph "Noktyn" Romano - Warrior, Leader
  • Jared "Iamvhell" Coulston - Priest
  • Greg "Ecilam" Risselada - Mage
  • Nathan "Kintt" Quinn - Priest
Power Trip is also the lone US representatives in the World of Warcraft division. The trip to China is actually an out of budget expense and Team Pandemic is currently selling limited T-shirts to help support the team. Power Trip will be travelling to China on April 27 (they'll meet up in Los Angeles) for last minute preparations. Expect more news from the trip, and we'll keep you posted.

Okay, okay, so maybe the World of Warcraft Arena Tournament did have its share of downsides. Even as the top 14 teams are now fighting to keep their positions, few contenders will probably make it to Regionals with Blizzard's shuffling of the Arena Tournament rules.

World of Warcraft - Arena Tournament legal issues halt top contenders from Regionals? - Image 1

Take for example, the membership base. Prior to the Arena season, aspiring contestants have already planned out their Arena teams. It seems, however, that despite the Arena Tournament being a "worldwide event," players hailing from certain states and territories are admittedly not eligible to compete in the tournament.

Well, there goes a big chunk of competition right out the back door. Given that the qualifications round started back in February 16 and will end on April 15, there is very little time for competitors to reform their teams to an eligible line up. Team members are required to enter separately in order to participate in the qualification Ladders round.
