In a WoW Insider article about characters that fit our personality, the author discusses why her lower-leveled character was more fun to use than her higher-leveled Warlock. This got me intrigued, so I took the initiative and went on to take the "Your WoW Character" quiz on MySpace myself. I ended up being a Gnome Warrior. I took the test multiple times and ended up with the same result. I studied the description of the character and realized that while I play a Tauren Shaman in Blizzard's World of Warcraft, my in-game strategies/tendencies actually match the description. The quiz itself is strangely accurate as our editor also took the test and ended up as a Human Priest. It's pretty accurate given my perception of his personality, (he chose to be an Elvish hunter though). While some would say that they found a character that fit their personality, we'd prefer to believe that we mold our characters to our personality. More often than not, when we pick our first character, we don't know what to do so we just end up tired of playing a weak character. With our second character we then decide to make it as powerful as humanly possible because we can't have fun with a weak character right? As time goes on though, we begin to realize that there's more to playing the game than simply being powerful. Our personalities begin influencing the decisions that we make with regards to leveling, stat point allocation, and even equipment. Some take this further than others while a few would stick with their preset plans. By the time we choose our third character, we have already narrowed down how we want to play the game, so we decide accordingly. Of course, there are some players who picked one character when WoW came out and till today still feel that it is their favorite character. I am one such player, but I sometimes find myself acting out of character with regards to my Shaman (I chose engineering, how OOC is that right?) So what character are you? Do you find yourself molding your character to your personality, or do you find that certain characters appeal to you more than others because it just fits perfectly? |

A week ago, we told you about Shawn Fanning's new brainchild called Rupture - a social-networking site which aims to be the MySpace for MMOs. Now here we are, trying to give you a more concrete idea of what Rupture is all about. From our earlier article, you already know that you could publish your account profile, your character and guild, share pictures, stories and other what-nots. What you didn't know is that readily available character info and guild affiliations are just some of the features available through Rupture. After completely filling out your profile, Rupture would add it to their servers and then publish the information to your profile and include an IM/chat client. Plus, using Rupture is completely free of charge, just so you know. The Rupture site may already be up, but it is still in its beta phase and registration is currently open via invitation, but in spite of that, it's easy to see its potential, after all 8 million WoW users is indeed a very large market. We'll be sure to update you with developments concerning Rupture, for now you could go ahead and visit its homepage by clicking on our read link below. |

If you've always eyed that beautiful Draenei you've seen frolicking around the Outland prairies, stalking her just won't cut it anymore. You have to play the dating game with finesse. And if it's online dating you're talking about, the word "finesse" can mean a lot of things. The social-networking site project of Shawn Fanning ("the Napster guy") is already up. Rupture is already online and it's got the bare-bone features of what his team is planning to eventually implement in the future. Although this project's full goal is creating an MMO MySpace venue for players to interact with others, they're starting out with just one game for now: World of Warcraft. Least to say, hey!, that's got a lot of players to back it up in itself. But once they expand in the future to accept gamers from other games, then "WoW" is all we can say (and a good place for them to start). The website allows you to publish your account profiles, your character and guild, share pictures and stories, chat, and of course, meet new friends to join you on your quests. Get started with the Rupture; click the "Read" link below. |

After upending the entire music industry with Napster back before the bubble burst, founder and whiz kid Shawn Fanning's eyes are set on upending another world altogether: the World of Warcraft virtual community. Nope, this doesn't involve anything about music, so you Orcs and Elves and Humans and Undead won't have to shell gold for in-game MP3 players or something.Reported by Gamespot, and according to BusinessWeek Online, Shawn is working on "Rupture", "a virtual social community for online gamers." In other (Gamespot's) words, a "MySpace for Azeroth", although the concept could later on be adapted and extended to other MMO games. Rupture will allow players to instant message each other's friends while playing, organize themselves on the fly, track their guild stats, and so forth - okay, it's a MySpace + IM right in the WoW game world. Blizzard was unavailable for comment, says Gamespot. No other details were revealed, so all we have to go on is the MySpace allusion. Shawn intends to unveil Rupture sometime in the near future. Somehow, we wonder if some WoW modder, upon reading this, now intends to beat Fanning to the punch. And speaking of Napster, at least we're not talking about Second Life's CopyBot here. |

Intel has announced that their upcoming major event on the World Series of Video Games circuit will be called the "UK Gaming Championship" and will be held at the London Trocadero in Piccadilly Circus. In store for attendees are a tournament area where they can watch the world's top gamers work their magic on gameplaying, an experiential zone for free gaming and walk-on tournaments, a music and games party, and tons more. The said event will feature professional gaming tournaments in Warcraft III: Frozen Throne, Counter Strike 1.6, and the Xbox 360's Quake 4. Those who decide to attend the event can choose to compete, or just simply watch the world's best players strut their stuff and battle it out for over £40,000 (that's roughly 76 grand for us) worth of cash and other prizes. The top gamers from around the world including Fatal1ty, Stermy, Toxic, Team Fnatic, and England's own 4 Kings, will be flying in for the event, where new games and technologies will also be featured, with prizes and free giveaways from sponsors including Intel, Fatal1ty Brands led by Creative, and ATI. The music and games party will be held on Saturday night from 7pm-10pm, featuring a DJ and a contest for the “Miss World Series of Video Games.” If you wanna join in on the partying, all you have to do is link the World Series of Video Games as one of your top 8 friends at the said event's Myspace page. The UK Gaming Championship will be featured as a part of The London Games Festival, and will showcase the hottest games, seminars, and prominent people in the gaming industry. The World Series event will also feature the World’s Largest Joystick, which measures 3 metres, and is actually playable. Now that's definitely something worth checking out, don't you think? The UK Gaming Championship will run from October 6-8 and hours of operation will be 10-10 on Friday and Saturday, and 12-5 on Sunday. If you and your friends do decide to grace the event as a spur of the moment thing, all you have to do is pay a two-dollar door fee. |

Well, only the second part of that title isn't true. Blizzard Entertainment, maker of the ever-popular MMORPG World of Warcraft, has followed in Dungeon and Dragons Online's footsteps and made their way to MySpace, and boy, are they getting popular. With more than 33,000 accounts added to the friends list, WoW has picked a rather good place to remind people of the game. They've also added a ton of freebies to the page, including AIM icons, MySpace WoW pets, and a link to their 10-day free trial for game. While not really being an overwhelming percentage of the more than six million strong WoW population, 33,000 people viewing the page is still a significant number when compared to other sites, especially since MySpace is also an online journal, which tends to have a more personal or private atmosphere compared to a full-fledged website. Perhaps it is one part social networking, and another part advertisement for the game, not that they quite need it now, but it is an ingenious and successful use of the site to further make WoW a household name worldwide. At the very least, it should dispel the idea of MySpace being "emo central," we hope. |
